Plovdiv 2019. The Beginning

4 January 2019
We are so excited to join in celebrating the Opening of the Plovdiv 2019 - European Capital of Culture with the most attractive highlight in its programme - The We Are All Colors' Show.

Over the course of an extended weekend a series of events will take place at various in-and outdoor spaces across the city. Its peak will be on Saturday, 12 January with We Are All Colors' performance. The show, combining music, light and dance, will give the key to the whole year ahead and to the basic concept of the European Capital of Culture project. More than 1500 participants from Bulgaria and abroad will recreate on the open stage a large and colorful metaphor of all the main themes of the programme Plovdiv 2019 and their relationships under the motto Together.

The show's focal point is a 30-metre-high 360-degree-visibility tower, designed at six levels specially for the opening of Plovdiv 2019.
The renowned Bulgarian kaval player Teodosii Spasov will open the We Are All Colors' show with a specially composed work. More than 200 kukeri from the Plovdiv region, the Trakia ensemble and students from the National School for Stage and Screen Arts will participate. Performers from the Music, Dance and Performative Arts Academy will offer a laser harps surprise.
The Bulgarian composer Hristo Namliev will offer a segment featuring more than 200 choir singers from all Plovdiv choirs, directed by Dian Chobanov and accompanied by 20 bagpipe players.
The We Are All Colors' show will wrap up with a spectacular fireworks display and a performance by the noted Bulgarian folk singer Valya Balkanska and her bagpipe accompanist Petar Yanev. After the show, the renown German electronic musician Schiller will indulge the audience with an exclusive electronic DJ performance.
