The great artist on stage

5 July 2018 text Natalia Ivanova
"I'm Dimitris Papaioannou and I'm trying to be an artist" were his first words in an April interview. To hear his suspicion is surprising but also somewhat soothing - he's a choreographer with 32 years' experience, his works opened and closed the ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games but the smaller scale examples are also great. On the stage, he uses everything but the voice: from the human body and it's limits to the light, the scenography, and shapes that point to classical art, mythology and religion. We see his influentian work for first time in the autumn One Dance Week in Plovdiv on September 28 and 29, when the Great Timer enters the House of Culture Boris Hristov, but if you think that you have enough time to buy a ticket, the seats are almost busy. Before booking the last ones, keep a few minutes and come with us to investigate the traces of a great artist's biography.
