"J'Accuse ...!", Wrote Emil Zola in an open letter to the French president in 1898, and this was only the beginning of a storm of accusations against the government that almost led to a civil war.


The cause is the unjustly betrayed Jewish officer, Alfred Dreyfus, who becomes a byword for a bad judicial system, expertly framed by writer Robert Harris. It is he who co-wrote with Roman Polanski in the director's new film, which went not without resistance through the competition program of the Venice Festival.
