As a child, Tina feels special; but today she is a quiet border policeman who has accepted that she is an ugly person with a chromosome error.

Because she can't hide how different she is, as the Oscar-nominated make-up convinces, she has adopted a strategy to be quiet enough to be noticed as little as possible. Unless her nose shakes: in a mysterious way, Tina smells people hiding something and has never confused a trafficker or a criminal. Only one gesture is enough to get you into a thorough search. One day, however, a man passes through the border who looks like her, confuses her sense of smell for the first time and magnetically attracts her. What happens next is so bizarrely and masterfully crafted that it is a genre in itself. There are horror, thriller, black comedy, romantic stories and a folk tale in which eating raw bugs is the most common thing on screen. The film is based on the story of Jon Aivide Lindquist (author of Invite Me In), and through the eyes of Danish-Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi, with the Cannes Special Look Award, 2018 becomes a story about what it means to accept that you are human.
