Pencho Georgiev

Genre: paintings
Sofia City Art Gallery celebrates the 120th anniversary of the birth of Pencho Georgiev with exhibition with over 150 of his preserved works. Deeply connected with modernism in Bulgarian art, he began to work actively in the 1920s with Ivan Milev, Iliya Beshkov and Vasil Stoilov, but a tragic incident ended his life in 1940.

For the short period in which he painted, Pencho Georgiev left a significant artistic heritage. Everyday life is present in his paintings through numerous images of families and mothers, funeral rites, homeless wanderers, street musicians, noisy cabaret and accordionists. However, the basis of his creative interest remains the theater. In it the artist sees the full opportunity to combine the skills of graphics and painting with the magic of the stage, actively participating in the technical implementation of the decor.
