The evening of the Polish mountaineering cinema starts at 18:30 there, with 4 screenings of films with a bunch of festival awards (including from Bansko). • KvARTal Festival

    18 September 2020

It is unbelievable how the square between the Dondukov, Maria Luiza, Slivnitsa and Levski boulevards has developed since KvARTal Fest settled there. The initiative to turn the area into an art district, where something unexpected and interesting lurks around every corner, is 5 years old today. The festival returns for another installment in the evening of September 18 and continues until the 20th - without big stages and crowds, but with small surprises in every second store, gallery or backyard. Follow the program on Facebook.
  • Cinema in the yard

    17 September 2020

Like other cultural venues in the city, this summer the Goethe-Institut turned its yard into a cinema. Every Thursday this month, after registering on Facebook or the institute's website, we watch selected German movies there. Like the one-shot action thriller Victoria (Sept. 17, 20:00) or the punk-anarchist movie Black Sheep (Sept. 24), preceded by a yodel concert, performances and a short film curated by Sofia Art Week.
  • PURE /future/

    16 September 2020

Bakalov redesigns his installation for the space of the Sofia Arsenal Museum, and each of us enters to experience it alone between September 16 and November 1.

  • Shadows in Paradise

    27 February 2020

Sofia Film Fest has a reason to spin almost all Aki Kaurismaki's films twice - once for warm-up at the Cinema House from March 2 to 13, and then in the midst of the festival in Odeon from March 27 to April 2. Our proposal for March 3 at the Cinema House is Shadows in Paradise - a comedy-drama in which a dumpster truck driver in Helsinki, who only reads comics all his life, and a shy cashier fall in love. The romance is careful, just as the humor is black. The story starts at 6:00 pm against a 9lv entry, and if you haven't gotten the right dose of Kaurismaki after the screening, see when to watch the rest of it here.
  • A vision

    6 March 2020

There are several people involved in this performance that we like, so we wouldn't miss it. Here are Boris Delchev in combination with Mihaela Dobreva, who together with the choreographer Tsveta Doicheva invite every viewer "to become part of the kinetics of the picture created in space, to feel and arrange its scattered parts".

Glory, The Last Man, or The Portrait of Dorian Gray is the highlight of the last theatrical season? Do not rush to answer - these and 20 other performances are competing for a Icarus 2020 award, and before the awards are presented on March 27, the Sofia Theater Salon calls them all back on stage. On March 2, we start with Kak e at Sfumato, the rest of the schedule is here.
  • La bohème

    4 March 2020

It's not a big deal that we can only watch it on screen, the Puccini opera is still influential not only because it's a classic but also because, in the contemporary version of the Royal Opera House, the Tony-awarded set design by Stuart Lening shoots us straight into a 19th century Paris attic. It is there that we peek into the bohemian life of poor poet Rodolfo, who changes completely when he meets Mimi who suffers from tuberculosis. Our soprano Sonia Yoncheva takes on the role and her voice follows the impeccably sharp emotional twists of the eternal libretto of Giuseppe Jacosa and Luigi Ilika. See when and where you can watch this opera here.
  • 25 TA LIFE

    5 March 2020

  • Puk! + movies х3 + Action 20/2020

    29 February 2020

4 decent events on February 29:

This documentary photographer with a Magnum membership has a particular attitude to tourism, which is evident in his Synthesis exhibition at the moment. The PUK! photo book platform becomes part of it on February 29, from 2:00pm to 8:00pm, by letting us scroll through (or color) 30+ of Parr's photo books focused on everything from quirky objects to "boring" postcards.

This new series by Goethe-Institut will show us silent German films from a century ago, accompanied by live music just as it was back then. The pilot event at 8:00pm on February 29th is at Vlaykova cinema with tickets for 10BGN sold there and on urboapp.com, and the stars of the evening are the jazz of the Antony Donchev 3UP Trio and the beautiful Berlin - a symphony of the big city with which Walter Rutman introduces us to the pulse of Berlin from the 20's before World War II changed it.

The team behind Block Cinema is also behind this series of free screenings of American documentaries focused on global issues. The first edition of the year is at the Student House - on February 29th at 7:30pm after registering on eventbrite.com we watch Restless Creature: Wendy Whelan or a story about classical and modern ballet, the painful steps to and away from the stage and dance as a way of life.
    ACTION 20/2020
20 designers who studied Fashion at the National Academy of Art celebrate the 20th anniversary of their specialty with a fashion performance in the Czech Center on February 29th at 6:00pm. They've prepared 20 silhouettes that reflect the dynamics in the industry - we reflect them as well in tact with the music of Julieta Intergalactica.
  • CreativeMornings + Screen printing

    28 February 2020

2 decent events on February 28:

Струва си да станете по-рано този петък, защото докато пиете кафето си в Генератор, Благовеста Пугьова ще разказва за Подарете книга. Това е нейна инициатива, в която от 10 години доброволци стават ментори на деца от домове, помагат им в уроците или с приятелски съвети. Благовеста е експерт по финанси, но тук влиза в темата "инвестиране" не на пари, а на време. Лекцията със закуска започва в 08:30 на 28 февруари.

With over 200 photos and illustrations, spreadsheets, and all the information that one can hope for, the new book on screen printing is great for both newbies and advanced screenprinters. It is a fruit of the joint efforts of the Fespa Bulgaria Association, and at the premiere (Peroto, February 28th, 18:30) we'll get to meet Michel Caza. A screen printing expert, he has made a huge impact in the development of technology, has won many awards, and has worked with everyone from Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol to Dior and Chanel. At the premiere he will talk about the relationship between screen printing and art and answer questions.
  • Soft Things + Nirvana

    27 February 2020

2 good events on February 27:

In her new dance performance Iva Sveshtarova and the German Rose Beerman put under obscures the idea that femininity and softness overlap. They say that by the end they will returne to "soft thing", but knowing the work of Sveshtarova, the performance will be barely fluffy - is more likely to bare its teeth. It premieres in DNA at 27 and February 28 at 19:00.

Back in 2010, when Ivan Dobchev posed for it, the play (by Konstantin Iliev) became a classic, with Ikar and Askeer for music by Asen Avramov and nomination for the role of Hristo Bonin. He is on stage with Irmena Chichikova - both love each other, but her intensity and desire to he has all to himself, until it merges completely, crashes into his restraint. The news? Nirvana returns to Sfumato from February 27 at 7:00pm.
