DIY spices

We were walking near the Women's Market and the aroma of fresh herbs stopped us mid stride. It turned out that now is the time to begin to grow them at home. And, hurray, these pets do not need an experienced owner.

After you buy seedlings, put them in a larger pot on window that gets the most sun and check every day if the soil needs watering. The herbs will repay you with fresh flavors, but don't be greedy - their leaves need time to recover. And here is where they go.

For meat

For meat

Depends on the type of meats, of course, but here are our favorite is called Rosemary. Be careful to not over-water it and you will be together for a long time - it's an evergreen plant. It's also good for all sorts of sauces for pasta, add it to the red with beef for example. Our other favorite is marjoram, because of the strong, slightly citrus flavor. Put the right amount and see how every ordinary recipe blooms on your plate.
For fish

For fish

We like basil for salad with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella, but for it we need a whole garden. For home, we prefer the type with small leaves - they also smell quite strong while growing. We put them in many dishes, but they are great for fish - you don't really need a recipe, only sea salt and lemon. We also love thyme, and if you're thinking about tea - well, this is a good bonus to it. You probably imagine dried leaves, but when they're fresh, they are ten times as aromatic. Try it, if you don't believe us.
For cocktails

For cocktails

Well, yes, you got it - mint is a good start, after all a few leaves can transform even a glass of cold water into something special; and what can we say about rum and Coke. Our rule of thumb is that if the drink goes well with lemon, it's also good with mint. If you want homemade cocktails for A+, well, you need to find another member of the family - spearmint. We're serious here, it's in the base of the classic Mojito.
