The long walk with architecture modernism

25 October 2018
Largo and the National Palace of Culture - fine, but where else would you look for the character of the architecture in Sofia? Perhaps in a curved window in front of a rounded corner, a flat roof for a terrace over the city or in a mosaic with an abstract element. At least this is the answer according to the team Bulgarian Architectural Modernism - Teodor Karakolev (a journalist and photographer) and Vasil Makarinov (curator in the Polytechnic Museum). For over four years, the two have been exploring and showing the work of architects who were equally skeptical of the ornament and excited to use stone, light and detail in calm, tidy facades. Together, we go for a walk in which for every second building, we find at least one reason to want to be right here - in a forgotten history of the past, influenced in equal by Kandinsky and Corbusier, and by its own direction.
