Backstage Games

25 September 2008 text Irina Marinova
The new season at theatres is going to be very strong. We have already peeped into the backstage to find out more about the most interesting projects that will be put on stage in the next few months and here it is – the info in advance.

We start with a fresh and as seen on the picture, a wonderful example – the first premiere for the season in the Youth Theatre. This is the musical Wonderful Boys where six unemployed men, inspired by a group of strippers decide to make a small fortune by organizing their own striptease show. The next premiere in the Youth Theatre will be The Tempest by Shakespeare in the adaptation of Teddy Moskov.

In the Balgarska Armia Theatre there will be another performance by Moskov – a funny journey into the Antiquity with Odysseus. At the same theatre there will be also a new performance by prof. Krikor Azarjan, who after the wonderful trip to Chekhov’s dramaturgy will lean over backwards into the absurdity with The Collection by Harold Pinter.

Sfumato started the season with the same play and will add another one by the same author – The Dwarfs, directed by the Small Season award winner Dobromir Cvetkov. Their latest premiere – the spectacle of Elena Panaiotova The Silencing by Ingmar Bergman’s film Persona. What is more is that Sfumato is continuing to swim into the deep waters and after their programs devoted to Dostoyevsky and Strindberg this year Sfumato will put on stage Gogol too.

We won’t miss the forthcoming premiere The Bridge in the National Theatre – a funny spectacle by Stefan Danailov with two of his students from his last class of NATFA. We are also waiting for The Ball of the Thieves directed by Thierry Arcour whom we know from his pleasant interpretation of An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde the was shown last year. Still to come is also the vicious Volpone directed by Zdravko Mitkov.
