Underground House

9 February 2007 text Anelia Alexandrova
Well… John Digweed has just released his new compilation and is already coming to Bulgaria for a big party of the Viva Sound Factory series. It is organized by Metropolis, and the location is fantastic – second level of the Sofia City Centre underground parking lot. The party is on February 17th, so start warming up with Transitions Vol. 2 or dig out the first Renaissance, recorded together with Sasha and remember the beginning. Is it necessary to explain who the hell is John Digweed? He is simply big – in 2001 DJ?Magazine declared him #1, and today, despite his heavy schedule as a producer promoter and a DJ, is also a resident in London’s Heaven and Brighton’s The?Beach.

Hello, John! Your new album, Transitions Vol.2, has just been released. Are there any reactions already?
Well, yes. For now the reactions are good. The people who have heard the mix definitely like it.

You are big both as a DJ and a producer. How do you manage to be so good?
I am trying to be concentrated on my things, on my music. It is not easy, because I have also to think about the label (Bedrock), parties and compilations like Transitions and about my gigs of course. But I am trying…

What is most important at the moment – the label, the DJ-ing, or your radio show?
They are connected – Bedrock exists along with my Kiss radio show. And my gigs are connected to both the radio and the label. Everything is important, you know.

Will you describe us a day of John Digweed. What do you usually do?
Music, music, music. In different forms, in all forms. And very little sleep.

Hm and how do you imagine the perfect evening – behind the music-stand, on a secret island or somewhere else?
Maybe… behind the music-stand on some remoted island, or on the beach. Why not some Bulgarian beach?
