• 7 Moments of Iva Tokmakchieva

    3 October 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

"I like colorful and interesting people, but I recharge myself the most when I'm alone." Maybe that's why her favorite spot in Sofia is the Rotunda yard, where it's so peaceful that time seems to stop. Otherwise you can often find her it in the small art cinemas around the city center because they show the most unusual films.

  • 7 moments of Joanna Petkova

    26 September 2019

"Where are my boundaries? Do I want to have boundaries?" are two questions that often bother her, and are important in her work, too - Joanna paints in an attempt to tap into the capabilities of her own body.
  • 8 Moments of Dilyana Doncheva

    19 September 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

When we entered her Instagram gallery, we found ourselves among such strange creatures that we had to stay to get to know them. Dilyana often draws, for example, her dog Bobby as if he were human, and to her human characters she likes to mount skull noses, monkey tails, shark heads, eyes on the back... It sounds like a big cacophony, but her illustrations - mostly digital - are actually more thrifty than chatty, and do not suffer from excessive noise.
  • 10 Moments of Aleksi Ivanov

    12 September 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

You may not recognize him by name, but as you look around, you will quickly remember who Aleksi is - for years he has filled the city with multicolored characters, drawn in a style you can't confuse with someone else's.
  • 7 moments of Natali Sarkisyan

    5 September 2019

She dreams of traveling through fictional cities, but the real ones are even more attractive to her. Her personal history also runs between the two countries: she was born in Sofia, where she graduated from high school and now lives in Antwerp, where she studies Graphics at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Now we stop her constant travelling, but just for a moment - exactly enough for her to show us a few works from her portfolio.
  • 8 moments of Sasho Violetov

    29 August 2019

He is a street artist who graduated Mural Painting, and an artist who painted cops in poses from Matisse's Dance. That is to say, his themes are contemporary, and his instruments and influences are masterful. But most important to Sasho Violetov is the humor with which he takes topics from hunting animals to secret fetishes or how difficult it is to draw hands. The smiles appear not only drawn - a few weeks ago, near Alexander Nevsky, he put a pavement with a human face under our feet (which was secretly taken by an anonymous collector almost immediately). Otherwise he has been in solo and collective exhibitions here and in England, his work is standing on the walls in several cities, and already on this page - plus a story about a series, the largest canvas and a human galaxy.
  • 7 Moments of Marieta Todorova

    22 August 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She's been into letters since school when she looked at graffiti on the streets and then tried to do similar stuff in her notebooks. Today, she has her own style, which, with precise movements, she puts on the sheet for various personal and custom projects.
  • 8 moments of Tsveta Stoeva

    8 August 2019

"In another reality, writes Tsveta from Berlin," I am the author of 2 books with short stories and a play that still collect dust in the drawer of my children's room. "
  • 7 Moments of Kristina Slavkova

    1 August 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

One of her earliest memories is of her playing in her father's art studio all day or showing her parents her drawings of aliens with antennas late into the evening. Today, the kid in her is still there. And it's even become the most valuable part of her style since she turned her back on graphic design and took up illustration and book design. After working on several other author's stories, she recently published one of her own - A Story With Two Lice.
  • 9 Moments of Dimitar Shopov

    25 July 2019

    text Sevda Semer

His work speaks with two different voices: as Dimitar Shopov he creates digital illustrations, video, performance and installations, while as Milosh Gavazov - his alter ego, he paints and draws, pretending to be an artist from the previous century.
  • 8 moments of Emanuil Sergiev

    18 July 2019

He's still very small when they notice at home that he has taken his grandfather's hand and everything shows that he'll be an artist. That's why they encourage him to draw even more and see what will come out of it.
  • 6 moments of Galin Ganchev

    11 July 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

We find him on the beach in Sinemoretz, but otherwise he is more of a mountain person - he often climbs Vitosha either with his bicycle and friends, or with his camera to seek peace and a new perspective. That's when he and his girlfriend are not flying to a new big European city as they often like to do.
  • Valentina Sciarra and the art of getting involved

    11 July 2019

She has been living in Sofia for four years, but she is an Italian born in Rome so when we call her on the phone, she answers in Bulgarian, Italian and English in one sentence. Valentina speaks not only between languages, but also between several areas of work that we have seen around in various projects like her land-art path in Strupanitsa. When we meet her, she has just moved large pieces of granite around in preparation for Sofia Art Week (more about the festival here), where she’ll be making an installation with a video on the vitrine of Structura gallery. Before we see it, we meet with Valentina to ask is it not heavy to work with stones, what is so nice about Sofia blocks and why she’s got books on agriculture in her library.
  • 7 moments of Aleksander Gerginov

    4 July 2019

  • 7 Moments of Katrin Eftimova

    27 June 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

If you are from Varna, you may know her artistic style from the visuals for the VarnaLit festival. And you may know Katrin, too - she grew up by the sea where she made her first steps as a painter and then tried her hand at graphic desing, poster art and in  drawing jazz musicians while they were playing at her favorite Menthol club.
  • 7 moments of Aleksandra Georgieva

    20 June 2019

We have also seen her black and white drawings for the book Their Memories and then, which 2 years ago gathered real pieces of the past to a bunch of people. Recently Alexandra uploads weird-funny drawings in her instagram, sometimes inspired by true photographs. Not everything is sympathetic - two sausages of the butcher's shop are turned into twins with blatant intentions, and a random picture of a child with pigeons - in The Birds, if Hitchcock was a humorous animator. She recently started tattooing, and she's also making zines which she showed at an exhibition at Gifted, but she also thinks of bigger paintings. See her drawings of her funny moments and weird situations.
  • 8 Moments of Iva Sasheva

    13 June 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

In short, let's say she's a master of fine arts, specializing in Graphics. However, after just one look at her works here, you'll surely want to know more about the person who draws that way. So here we go:
  • 7 Moments of Kalina Peeva

    6 June 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She studied Psychology for two semesters before finally admitting to her own self that this has always been a compromise. And here she is now, on the road that has always secretly attracted her more. For nearly a year now, Kalina has been living in the English town of Leeds, where she will soon complete a high-speed Art and Design course before returting to Bulgaria with the hopes of continuing her studies at the National Academy of Art.
  • 8 Moments of Asya Koleva

    30 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She loves new places with interesting culture, strives to live minimalistically with care for the nature and every time makes different pancakes. As if in previous life, she studied Hungarian philology, translated, edited, and traveled a little bit more before she made a sharp career turn and became a graphic designer and illustrator.
  • 10 Moments of Todor Georgiev

    23 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

While you're reading this, the works of Todor are simultaneously participating in two exhibitions: a group one focused on typography in the Sofia Univesity rectorate and a solo one in the UniArt gallery, where the Cyrillic alphabet speaks in different formats - from a bent street sign to echoing sound.
