• 7 moments of Aleksandra Georgieva

    20 June 2019

We have also seen her black and white drawings for the book Their Memories and then, which 2 years ago gathered real pieces of the past to a bunch of people. Recently Alexandra uploads weird-funny drawings in her instagram, sometimes inspired by true photographs. Not everything is sympathetic - two sausages of the butcher's shop are turned into twins with blatant intentions, and a random picture of a child with pigeons - in The Birds, if Hitchcock was a humorous animator. She recently started tattooing, and she's also making zines which she showed at an exhibition at Gifted, but she also thinks of bigger paintings. See her drawings of her funny moments and weird situations.

    6 June 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She studied Psychology for two semesters before finally admitting to her own self that this has always been a compromise. And here she is now, on the road that has always secretly attracted her more. For nearly a year now, Kalina has been living in the English town of Leeds, where she will soon complete a high-speed Art and Design course before returting to Bulgaria with the hopes of continuing her studies at the National Academy of Art.
  • 8 Moments of Asya Koleva

    30 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She loves new places with interesting culture, strives to live minimalistically with care for the nature and every time makes different pancakes. As if in previous life, she studied Hungarian philology, translated, edited, and traveled a little bit more before she made a sharp career turn and became a graphic designer and illustrator.
  • 10 Moments of Todor Georgiev

    23 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

While you're reading this, the works of Todor are simultaneously participating in two exhibitions: a group one focused on typography in the Sofia Univesity rectorate and a solo one in the UniArt gallery, where the Cyrillic alphabet speaks in different formats - from a bent street sign to echoing sound.
  • 9 Moments of Desislava Unger

    16 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

When it comes to making big decisions, she often follows her intuition instead of weighing out her options for months and months. That's how she knew her place was at the National Art Academy (where she was a student of Andrey Daniel), ever since as a little girl she first saw the beautiful red building on Shipka Str. In the same way she found herself at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna: "I went to a very old, wonderful elevator that led to the Graphics studio, and I knew - here is where I want to be."
  • 10 Moments of Zhana Mitkova

    9 May 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She's a summer person and she's always in search - of her next destination; of the next great moment to be caught on her analog camera; of another neighbor's pot from which to steal a flower; and of the next part of herself which to start developing.
  • 7 Moments of Angela Terzieva

    25 April 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She does not like hurrying in the morning, but she still misses the most dynamic episode of her life - when she was a dancer. She stopped competing in that field when she decides to study at the Art Academy, and this soon brought her another valuable bowl - the painting award Edmond Demirdjian in 2015 (shared with her sister Eleonora).
  • 7 moments of Alina Papazova

    18 April 2019

She wants to remember all the moments, not just the seven we ask her about. Probably because of this she keeps diaries with drawings where color pours on everything from her day, starting from the hand holding the marker. This is not the only place for her ideas: except that she graduates Graphics and Illustration, she is now studying a ceramics and porcelain masters and making strange vases, colorful jars and sculpture. See her work here.

    4 April 2019

"An open story" - that's how sculptor Wilfrid Almendra describes the work he will put under the sky of Sofia this autumn. On his first visit to the city we meet in the sculpture workshop where he's working to hear where the story will open to - looks like it will be to us, so let's hear.
  • 7 Moments of Sofia Popyordanova

    28 March 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She loves the mountain, bread with honey and a white cat with different eyes. Since she was a kid, she's been in the right environment - she grew up with the illustrators Mila Yaneva and Andrea Popyordanova (the latter is her sister). "Maybe I've always followed somehow subconsciously her taste, interests, ideas, and directions so at some point I found myself on the same path as her." Thus, Sofia first enrolled in an art high school where she was "very colorful and then very gray" while studying the purity and grace with which later she was twice accepted at the National Art Academy.
  • 6 moments of Luben Domozetsky

    21 March 2019

If you find yourself in the mountains with him, don't worry if bended over a flower or a beetle he tells you, "I'm staying here, you go ahead, I'll catch up with you somewhere." This is Lyuben's natural environment while working on his scientific illustrations, each of which takes hours of exploration, shooting and searching. This focus on detail is also found in his profession - he is a curator at the Sofia City Art Gallery and art historian, enchanted by the old art. You will often see his name in an article, a catalog or a congress, and the Society of Scientific Illustrators (to which he is a member) has exhibited his fine and detailed drawings in three exhibitions. Well, tighten your backpack - Lyuben leads us on a tour for his important moments.
  • 9 Moments of Martin Atanasov

    14 March 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

Nature is a companion whom he can talk to for a long time, and he loves to turn its particles into herbariums - like those you can currently get from Twisted Mannequin. Otherwise he is inspired by the city as a clear mirror of today's society, he reads a lot of poetry, which is "the purest form of literature," and it is important for him to take pictures because they are a visual language, "and we live in a visual age."
  • 8 moments of Nadezhda Georgieva

    7 March 2019

Not long ago has she begun to ride a bicycle and a car and she is proud, but these are "small steps ahead of the big thing." The big one just got a little bigger, as Sito Studio - Nadezhda's screen-printing studio with three other people, who has been pulling t-shirts and prints for years and training groups, moved a few meters across the map to a new address. Now we stop for a chat with Nadezhda - and having a look at her own work.
  • 12 moments of Marta Djourina

    28 February 2019

There is something in the North that she finds simply fascinating - mabe that's why when she went to Berlin in 2009 to study, she never really comes back to Bulgaria.
  • 8 Moments of Pola Popova

    21 February 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She's into interior design, and has recently developed a plant obsession that draws her to cacti and aloes, while she's chosen the nickname The Fig Girl. It's no coincidence. Her family has a house in Sozopol, where Pola loves to take night walks, climb trees to pick fruit, or just sit on a branch and draw.
  • 8 Moments of Kaliya Kalacheva

    14 February 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She calls herself an architect by soul and a painter by profession "but since I became a mother, I don't remember what I am anymore". Although she misses the carelessness of her childhood, she also really likes the deadlines that she faces today because they're like an engine for her creativity.
  • 9 Moments of Alexandra Mladenova

    7 February 2019

    text Violeta Ivanova

She either sleeps too much or too little and she always eats too much spaghetti. What's never too much for her, though, are trips - whether just a stroll around the city, a trek in the mountain or a journey to a faraway place like the Columbian jungle.
