  • Poetry is a natural force

    11 December 2008

    Petya Zlatanova

Along with her first book she says Goodbye to the reader. Perhaps now she is boring from the competitions, because almost no gap. Her words are magnet for awards. The latter is from the short story contest Rashko Sugarev. She writes poetry, dramaturgy, she was leading TV, and soon - radio editor. You'll know her by the dimples in corners of her lips and luminous and shine spark in the eyes. Around her is warm and light.
Her new play Cinderella 09 has premiere in Stara Zagora on 19th December in the Regional Library Zahari Knyazheski. Maria Doneva is in the focus of the Programata this week.

Andrean Neshev is a designer as well as a collector of cultural clips. He started by cutting street posters with a paper knife so that he could paste together one known yet unknown Bulgarian cultural identity that impressed his German professors quite a bit with his graduation work. Now the idea has developed into a book – Visual Cut Bulgaria presenting 23 Bulgarian studios and artists in the sphere of communication design. Days before the premiere of the book at this Saturday’s Design biennale Andrean confessed tha without BNT’s good old logo things just wouldn’t have been the same.

  • On the Poetic Side

    11 September 2008

text Alexander Velickov, photos Iliian Rujin

Rumen Barosov is well spoken and seemingly calm but he can't hide his enthusiasm – the Sofia: Poetics festival, organized by himself and colleague Yasen Atanasov is close at hand. And it is a thing to be excited about indeed – eight years after the first Bulgarian festival combining urban poetry and modern music comes its second incarnation. And it shapes up to be quite good – 32 poets, 15 bands and DJs, 3 dance miniatures and one whole evening of art improvisation, on 21 September, under the stars and right next to the water lillies lake.

On 09.10.2008 the first Bulgarian music television will have an awards ceremony and these are not just annual awards but statuettes of the decade. Yes, time flies and it is time to find out who are the nominees. Before that we asked the unbiased director of the MM Awards Dimitar Kocev-Shosho about his expectations, personal passions and other details.
  • The Girl Next Door

    text Veronika Hadjieva

Raya is 18, she likes listening to music and snowboarding. She's just like the cute girl next-door. The only difference is that instead of watching her through her window, we will have the chance to watch her on the TV screen. The audience of MAD chose her among 4000 candidates for a VJ of the First от 7 Days MAX broadcast.

Niko Tuparev is a serious player. He changed the balance of forces with one move – parted SIA and made media market much more interesting. He soon gathered a strong team to work with, named his company Old School Productions and starts a systematic attack at the tv air. It will be a strong beginning with eight shows that will present almost everything starting from real love drama (Caught Red-handed) and a positive reality (Dancing Stars) and a women's talk show (4 Women). We are surprised that despite having such a heavy schedule Mr. Tuparev was willing to answer our curious questions.
  • Mediterrani Forever

It is rumored that Mediterrani, one of the sweetest bars in Sofia is closing and that news is hanging like a dark cloud over the city. Two days ago we saw it with our own eyes – at the entrance of the bar there is a white A4 that says Mediterrani is at Shishman Street only until mid August. How terrible! After 5 years in that bar we just can’t accept that the story ends up here. That is why one Sunday afternoon we sat in the small yard with the owners – a super family, consisting of Emi – computer engineer, Alex – lawyer and Maxim who is just one year old. While Max is toddling around the tables checking everything with his little fingers, we are talking with Emi and Alex about Mediterrani and its past and future and we leave with two good news.

Dr. House is going to a rally. Take it easy, the freak from the famous tv series had not thrown away his walking stick and his caustic remarks on the speedway. It's only Daniel Tsochev who doubles him in Bulgarian language and who has found a more extreme way of expressing his actor's talent. He is the narrator in the new 3D movie NASCAR.

39 years of age. Clean record. Still a bachelor. This is Georgi Nedelchev – former editor-in-chief of the Bulgarian Playboy magazine and the author of My Life in Playboy: The Memoars of An Editor-in-Chief. We talked with him about women and work, of course.

Momchil Nikolov is one of the so-called Fastliterature writers, but sometimes his writing happens to be a little bit slow – his new book Round Fish is the result of ten years hard work. Shortly after the premiere we asked the author what kind of fish is this and we understood that this is a story about the end of the world – the second part of a trilogy, whose beginning is still to come.
